If you are happy with the materials then you can add them to the
'Multi/Sub Object' material. This is an easy step. Select the 'Multi/Sub
'Instance' when prompted so you can still edit the material in it's own
editor slot, always a good move.
although at the moment all the poly's have an ID of 1, this being the
default number when an object is created.
What we need to do is to change the ID of the poly's that form the 'Dome'
part.....to 2, this being the ID we gave the 'Dome' sub/material earlier.

From the images above hopefully you can see the simple process of assigning mat ID's to poly's.
Basically in poly subobject mode select the poly's we want to change the ID of.
In the command panel under 'Polygon Properties' there is the option to assign the ID number to the selection.
the Name we gave each sub-material will be shown. If not, a default name will be displayed. This 'Name' now
has some use..it makes it easy for us to identify which material is assigned to which ID number....it also
allows us to quickly select 'groups' of poly's by their ID number, as in a selection set...handy!
