middle, so two different materials. Now, I have
object into two parts and apply different material
to each part. This can be done in two ways:
'dome' part as a completely separate object, and
apply a material to it. Nothing wrong with that
but does mean we have one more object to
keep track of. Or...
2. We could use a 'Multi/sub Object' material.
Whats one of those? Well it's basically one
material divided into however many different
sub materials you want to apply to a single
object, in this case, two. One will be for the
painted outer, the other for the shiny dome.

Object' material, we do this by clicking the type slot and selecting 'Multi/Sub Object' from the list.
Once selected we are presented with the parameters as above. The default number of materials
assigned is 10 as you can see. We only need two, you can leave it at 10 but for clarity it's best to only
sub-materials to 2, this will remove the remaining 8.
One thing to note however. If you later decide that you need more sub-materials then you can change
the number accordingly. If however you DECREASE the number the LAST material in the list will be
deleted. Unless you have copied it to the editor it will be gone forever!
It is therefore a good idea to always edit any sub-object materials in their own slot, rather than from
the 'Muti/Sub Object' material slot........just in case! So lets set our number and get on with it.............
