Looks ok so far! (Which to be honest is more luck than judgement)
So what could have gone wrong with it? Well when applying textures you
need to pay particular attention to the size. The wood 'Image' is of a certain
size and when applied to the object any detail in the image may look too big or
with the size of the object, otherwise it will just look silly.

being correct we can simply use a UVW Map to fine tune it.
